It’s not because we don’t want to change. In many case it is because people don’t have enough knowledge with food or even know what they should be eating.

There are some simple rules to follow.

Don’t buy or consume processed foods (white bread, cereals, white pasta, refined sugar, alcohol)

Avoid Wheat (gluten) / Dairy (milk), organic yoghurt is ok.

Avoid bad fats in foods (margarine, canola oil, mixed vegetable oils).

Hydrogenated proteins and oils (used in processed foods).

Avoid using table salt (sodium chloride).

Avoid foods with artificial preservatives, colourings and flavours.

From here it is really straight forward, eat and enjoy fresh food that you make and prepare yourself. Many of the ill health effects are a result of eating the wrong types of foods to often.

Foods to Enjoy:

Plenty of fresh green leafy vegetables – ensure that every meal is like a rainbow of colour.

Good Fats (Coconut Oil, Olive Oil, Grape Seeds Oil).

Add some nuts and seeds into your diet.

Add red meat, chicken and fish moderately to the diet.

If you must have a bread then try Sour Dough Rye – occassionally.

Strategic Diet

The key to reaching nutritional success is having a plan.

What will I eat?

When will I eat?

How often will I eat?

Do you have Answer these questions ?

Sometimes sounding like a broken record is the only way to get a message through.

eat like a king for breakfast

eat like a prince for lunch

eat like a pauper for dinner

It is also important to drink plenty of water throughout the day, hydrate and consume 1-2 litres per day.

The food choices you make for the day should be appropriate for the type of work or activities activities you have planned. Your strategy should also make allowances for the extra time it may take to prepare food for work or with children. You may even want to prepare your meals the night before, or make enough for dinner and lunch.

Before heading to do your weekly shop, think about where you will buy your food and know what meals you intend to make. You can save time and money knowing what you need before you head out to shop.

In many cases people have repetitive diets and will consume the same foods in a 7 day period. So mix things up and enjoy a broad and varied diet. Your on the internet right now so make use of the time and Google up some recipes.

So enjoy eating yourself to wellness.

Part of the naturopathic approach to health care is to change the diet, which in most cases is contributing to ill health.

One of the most common questions I get as a Naturopath after once we make changes to the diet is…..what can I eat?

So over the coming weeks will be blogging about dietary changes and what food to replace them with. From diets built around the consumption of too much wheat and dairy, to diets that are acid forming.

I will start answering these questions with recipe and food ideas.
